Description

Shrijap.com Presents the Gomukhi Shankh, a large, natural conch shell made for the sacred Shivling pooja. Its name comes from "Gomukh", the cow's mouth, because of the tube-like snout that lets water flow out in a slender, gentle stream. Thick, rounded horns crown its shoulder, and fine ridges run across a cream body marked with amber speckles and deep brown patches. Its flared base glows in warm golden-orange, and a frilled spiral tip rises at the top.

At 8.5 inches and about 1 kg, this shankh has a solid, reassuring presence. Many devotees hold that a regular shankh is not used for Lord Shiva, while the Gomukhi form is kept for his abhishek. Pouring water, milk or Gangajal through it is seen as a calm, respectful way to bathe the Shivling.

How to Use

Rinse the shankh gently in clean water or Gangajal. Do not use soap or harsh chemicals.
Fill it with water, raw milk or Gangajal, as your family tradition suggests.
Light a diya, chant "Om Namah Shivaya", then pour slowly through the snout over the Shivling.
After pooja, rinse, dry and keep it on a clean cloth in your mandir, never on the floor.
